What is it?
Bowel cancer is also called colorectal cancer. It affects the large bowel and can also affect the rectum. Bowel cancer is less common in children and young people, so a diagnosis is often difficult for this age group.
Who does it affect?
Bowel cancer is more common in the over-50 age group and is the 4th most common cancer in the UK. Although 94% of people diagnosed with bowel cancer are over 50, the disease is not confined to this age group, with more than 2,500 people under 50 years of age diagnosed in the UK each year.
