We always aim to have a bit of a party for milestone Supershoes. It’s both fabulous and heartbreaking that we’ve just delivered our 6000th pair. And a very special pair it was, which demanded a very special presentation committee! Super Tabitha was in London to see George Ezra (she also had some of his lyrics on her Supershoes), so a plan was hatched to deliver her Supershoes personally!
Supershoes has been working with Young Lives Vs Cancer (formerly CLIC Sargent) for a number of years now. The two charities have just announced their official partnership, so it was perfect timing to join together for this very special delivery. Supershoes’ CEO Sarah White, Super Trustee Ken White and Luke Mallett, Director of Income and Engagement at Young Lives vs Cancer visited Tabitha and her mum to present her with her awesome Supershoes.
And what a pair of shoes this is! Painted with love and laced with hope by Super Artist Lisa D, the shoes feature Tabitha’s beautiful cat, Tikka, her name, Tabs, musical notes, a rainbow and some George Ezra lyrics: “my girl, you’ve got nothing to lose”.
Tabitha was thrilled to receive the shoes, as you can see. She has had surgery and chemotherapy following her diagnosis of sarcoma in 2022, and still has to face more chemo for a further year, along with regular checks and scans, to ensure the cancer does not return. Supershoes always give a boost at a time of great challenge, and these were no exception.
Tabitha’s mum says, “Tabs has been so strong and resilient throughout her treatment and keeps smiling every day.” Her family wanted to shout out to Young Lives Vs Cancer and all the other NHS staff who have helped them through this very challenging time, along with family and friends who have supported them too.
At Supershoes, we just would also like to send our good wishes to Tabitha, and a huge thank you for being a brilliant 6000th recipient! You were a superstar, Tabitha!
At this special time, we also remember the 5999 children and young people who have also received Supershoes, because they too are on a cancer journey, or have been. And of course, the gift of Supershoes keeps on giving, as we head towards the next milestone. We recognise that means more poorly children to reach and we’ll be rooting for them all and working hard to make them smile.
