Art on canvas, art on skin...

Every single pair of unique Supershoes is painted on canvas. Of course they are: they’re trainers. But our multi-talented Super Artists also create artworks with, and on, a huge variety of mediums in their everyday lives too: fabric, plastered walls, magnets, motor vehicles, stones and….skin!

Many Super Artists are also professional facepainters and tattoo artists, and this story is about three Super people: Super Xanthia, who is 8, her Super Dad Andy, and Super Artist Amanda. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin…

When eight-year-old Super Xanthia was referred for a pair of Supershoes to give her a boost during treatment for a brain tumour, she asked for wolves as the main theme. A strong image, very appropriate for a brave girl. When we spoke to Andy to confirm the details, as we always do, he told us that he was planning to have a wolf tattoo to match the Supershoes, which we thought was such a cool idea! And who better to do both jobs than Super Artist Amanda? Amanda has been painting Supershoes for 7 years and has over 80 pairs to her credit. You can view them here. Amanda is also a tattoo artist, running her own tattoo studio in Hertfordshire and has over 25 years’ experience in her craft.

Amongst many other interests, Amanda loves all things nature, so jumped at the chance to paint Super Xanthia’s Supershoes with wolves. And when Andy contacted her to create his very first tattoo, she was more than happy to use her alternative artistic skills for a second family member. The results speak for themselves: one very happy, brave little girl, and one proud Dad!

Which took longest? Well, Xanthia’s Supershoes took 20 hours and Andy’s tattoo four-and-a-half. Great art takes time, whichever medium you use, and Amanda’s skill and patience certainly paid off. Look at those smiling faces! How awesome for daughter and dad to have the same connecting images!
