Sponsor — In memory of Lorna Grey

“An incredible force for good” is how our CEO, Sarah White describes Lorna, who was a great supporter of Supershoes. But of course, when someone much loved is taken too soon, it’s the family who grieve hardest, and Allan, Lorna’s soulmate and husband of 50 years has much to say about this lovely lady, wife, devoted mum and grandma, who lived a full and well-travelled life right to the end.

Lorna was one of those people who always gave of themselves. She was a secondary school teacher, who particularly enjoyed teaching children with special needs (it takes a big heart to do that), and her love for children was reflected in the work she did after her retirement: as an ambassador for the Make a Wish Foundation, her work saw her rewarded with an “Inspired in Rutland” award from the Red Cross. “Inspired” is certainly a fitting title for someone who jumped from the Sky Tower in Aukland, abseiled the Orbit at London’s Olympic Park, and rode the world’s fastest zip wire in North Wales, whilst always encouraging others to undertake sponsored activities for her charities.

Lorna also spent time volunteering in Florida each year for 8 years, for the Give Kids the World charity, helping look after children with life-limiting conditions. Age UK, Rutland Lions and vaccination clinics also benefited from Lorna’s dedication, time and kindness. She just loved meeting people, and leaves a legacy of love. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched over such a wide variety of causes.

As her husband Allan puts it: “I will miss Lorna every day for the rest of my life, but I am consoled that she is now at peace and no longer in pain, and that along with her beautiful soul, I will always be able to remember that equally beautiful face with the unforgettable smile.”
